dc.description.abstractIn this thesis, a new approach to power allocation for the cooperative communication system with amplify-and-forward (AF) relays is presented. Instead of knowing the channel information by feedback, the channels are known with statistical properties. Under this assumption, the power allocation problem which maximize an average received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the destination is formulated and solved. This is accomplished by deriving and applying an expectation of the harmonic mean of two independent exponential random variables. Simulation results show the performance enhancement of cooperative network in various senses as average SNR, capacity, outage behavior and error probability. Finally, some trends of power allocation for maximizing an average SNR is summarized.eng
