The paper discusses three practical issues, which are important for high power boost-based PFC namely, cost effective Fast recovery rectifier, low recovery current Schottky diode and high efficient SiC diode. The performances of Boost diodes (CSD04060, FFPF05060 and MBR40250) have been evaluated in a typical 700 W boost PFC application. By using the snubber, the converter performance with fast recovery diode may be improved, but the cost and size may be increasing. Efficiency gains resulting from the use of SiC rectifier in PFC boost converter can be used to increase power output and reduce EMI and the high cost of SiC is decreasing in the electronic field.
Schottky rectifier can achieve the low reverse current using voltage clamping circuit, expect to have a good efficiency due to low output voltage using low $R_{DS(ON)}$ switch with dc/dc converter, but may not be a good solution with respect to efficiency.
