Adaptive blind equalizer has gained wide-spread use in communication receivers that operates without training signals. In order to reduce the residual error and speed up the convergence process simultaneously, we propose a new blind equalizer operating on two-step which has a convergence detector. Therefore, it has both a good initial convergence of the dual-mode modified constant modulus algorithm (MCMA) and a low residual error of the decision-directed (DD) algorithm after converging. Convergence detector is used for finding out an iteration of beginning to converge and for switching between two algorithms. Simulation results show that the new algorithm has better performance in comparison to conventional algorithms.
