The main objectives of this dissertation are to propose Generalized modified CFAR detectors based on Order Statistics, and to derive their exact formulas in closed form. Then performance analyses for the various CFAR detectors are obtained based on the proposed scheme many background situations and various detection schemes. Firstly, We propose Generalized Order Statistic Cell Averaging (GOSCA), Generalized Order Statistic Greatest Of (GOSGO), and Generalized Order Statistic Smallest Of (GOSSO) CFAR detectors. Differently from conventional reference window structure, the modified window structure have the split window structure so that the computational time can be reduced, which is a critical factor for the real time operation. They have the structure of weighted summation for ordered samples to produce two estimates in leading and lagging reference windows. To obtain the background estimate which is used to threshold of CFAR detector, each detector uses its own operation. That is the GOSCA CFAR detector has Averaging of two estimates, the GOSGO CFAR detector uses Greatest of the two, and the GOSSO CFAR detector adopts Smallest of them. Each of them have its own advantages according to radar environment situations so that most effective radar detector can be chosen for any given situation. Their performance formulas are derived in terms of false alarm probability and detection probability. From the performance analysis, it has been observed that the GOSCA CFAR detector is the best in homogeneous situation, the GOSGO CFAR detector in clutter region near the clutter edges, and the GOGSO in clear region close to the clutter boundary and interfering targets situation. Secondly, we propose a new window structure to eliminate the fatal problem of GOSSO CFAR detector in clutter region near the clutter edges.
