Saccharin was reacted with ethylene carbonate to obtain N-(2-hydroxyethyl) saccharin with which acetic anhydride was reacted to obtain N-(2-acetoxyethyl) saccharin and pyrolysis of N-(2-acetoxyethyl) saccharin in acetone at 480-500℃ gave N-vinylsaccharin.
Polymerization of N-vinylsaccharin was carried out by radical initiators and also copolymerized with acrylonitrile, methylacrylate, and methyl methacrylate by radical initiators.
The composition of poly(acrylonitrile, N-vinylsaccharin) was determined by IR spectroscopy.
By inserting these results into M.Fineman and S.D. Ross equation we determined the values of monomer reactivity ratios.
From Q-e Scheme of Alfrey and Price Q,e values of V-vinylsaccharin have been calculated.
