dc.description.abstract | The aqueous polymerization of acrylamide with $H_5IO_6-MnCl_2$ initiator was studied under deserated condition at the temperature range of $30^\circ$-$40^\circ C$. High molecular weight polymer was obtained. And the addition of permanganate greatly reduced the induction period as well as molecular weight. It was considered that the formation of permanganate participates in polymerization. From the obtained results, the rate of polymerization was given by the emipirical rate expression $Rp=K[monomer]^{1.17}[H_5IO_6]^{0.58}[MnCl_2]^{0.55}$. Activation energy was found to be 20.0 Kcal/mole at the temperature range of $30^\circ$-$40^\circ C$. And the catalytic effect of metal compounds ($MnCl_2$, $CoCl_2$, $FeCl_2$) was investigated. It make clear that $MnCl_2$ gave the highest catalytic effect; $CoCl_2$ showed the good catalytic effect; $FeCl_2$ showed the least catalytic effect. It is proposed that the polymerization of acrylamide with $H_5IO_6-MnCl_2$ is proceeded by the radical mechanism. | eng |
