dc.description.abstractthus, making imitations challenging and imperfect becomes crucial for a leader. However, some industry cases depict a puzzling phenomenon where leaders assist rather than obstruct followers’ imitation efforts. This dissertation explores these occurrences, drawing upon relevant academic frameworks, theoretical insights, and computational modeling to shed light on the mechanisms and underlying rationales of this unique approach, referred to herein as ‘imitation promotion,’ adopted by leading firms. The findings, derived through computational modeling, reveal that imitation promotion is a strategic approach employed by leading firms to intentionally eradicate the uniqueness of followers. Through case studies, it has been revealed that the rationales behind leaders employing imitation promotion strategies are to (1) share costs and jointly penetrate the market by driving followers to develop complementary products or services-
