Single-crystal stucture made of catalytic metals and oxides play a key role in understanding how catalyst surfaces interact with reactants. However, a full understanding of the crystallographic reasons for these enhancements was lacking. This study fills that gap by providing evidence of the structure-property relationship using single-crystal $TiO_2$ as a model. We use a powerful method involving transient pulse heating to control porosity and phase in single-crystal $TiO_2$ nanosheets along the (001) plane. This controlled transition and pore creation happen without compromising the structure. Introducing high-entropy alloy nanoparticles shows excellent catalytic activity in CO oxidation, achieving $T_50$ and $T_90$ at $117^\circ C$ and $143^\circ C$. This better performance comes from the interaction between catalytic nanoparticles and the support, aiding CO and $O_2$ adsorption for oxidation. In summary, our study helps us understand catalyst systems better, and our method could be useful for making practical advanced nanocatalysts using single crystals.
