The enantioselective desorption of (R)- and (S)-propylene oxide (PO) on Pt(111) surfaces modified by (R)-3,3-dimethyl-2-butylamine (DMBA) has been studied by using temperature-programmed desorption (TPD). The enantiospecific adsorption of (R)-PO is likely to occur on the chiral voids induced by adsorption of (R)-DMBA. The maximum enantioselectivity ratio (RR/SR) is found to be 1.68 at intermediate coverages of (R)-DMBA. This ratio is larger than that measured for other template systems. This result is attributed to a bulky alkyl group of (R)-DMBA that enhances the enantioselectivity due to increasing a steric hindrance.
