In this thesis, the author studied the feasibility of HAPS and analyzes the performance of heterogeneous networks in an environment where HAPS is utilized as a relay node between terrestrial and satellite networks. The 5G link budgets for each communication node in a satellite-air-ground downlink network were calculated, and Monte Carlo simulations based on DVB-S2 standard were executed in a communication environment configured with the 3GPP 5G NR NTN standard and ITU HAPS standard to analyze the performance of heterogeneous networks by checking the bit error rates of each relay communication scheme. For the uplink network, the author similarly calculated the 5G link budgets of each node and compared the performance of the concatenated FEC code proposed by DVB-S2 standard with the 16-state turbo code proposed by DVB-RCS2 standard. The performance of the FEC codes was also compared using Monte Carlo simulations, and the communication scenario which is better to replace the 16-state turbo code with a concatenated FEC code of DVB-S2 standard was suggested for uplink transmissions.
