dc.description.abstract4-Arm star-shaped block copolymers were prepared by sequential Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and trimethylsilyhydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA-TMS) monomer. After the transformation of TMS group to bromoisobutyryl group, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) grafted star polymers with narrow PDI value were successfully synthesized. The structure of synthesized polymers was analyzed by NMR, and the AFM image showed that the polymer has a star-shape with 4 arms. These N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) grafted star polymers exhibit LCST around 32℃ like PNIPAM homopolymers. The unimolecular micellar property of the polymer was investigated by hydrophobic dye encapsulation studies, which show star polymer can act as a nano-carrier for hydrophobic compounds in water.eng
