A Simple Gate Control Method for Output Voltage Balancing in Input-Parallel Output-Series Boost Converter

This paper proposes a simple gate control method to achieve balanced output voltages in an input-parallel output-series (IPOS) boost converter. Conventional gate control method can achieve balanced output voltages under balanced load condition. Meanwhile, due to the dead time effects, output voltage unbalance occurs under unbalanced load condition. In this paper, dead time effect on output voltage unbalance is analyzed and simple gate control method for dead time effect mitigation is proposed. Proposed gate control method can mitigate the dead time effects and achieve balanced output voltages under balanced and unbalanced load condition. The feasibility of the proposed gate control method is experimentally verified through 2 kW IPOS boost prototype converter.
