Flexible neural probes are essential Neurotools to investigate brain circuits and offer the advantage of reduced tissue damage during neural recording. The increase in flexibility, however, implies a reduction in probe insertion capability. Herein, we describe a method for silk fibroin deposition on a flexible neural probe with varying thicknesses for temporary probe stiffening. The electrodeposited silk film is selectively deposited on the back side of the neural probe to not interfere with the recording electrodes, which allows immediate neural recording after insertion. The layer then slowly breakdown in the bio-environment, recovering the flexibility after the insertion.
