Recently, electric trams have been used as eco-friendly means of transportation in urban areas. Among the various types of electric trams, this study deals with the wireless charging electric trams. The wireless charging electric tram is an electric tram that can charge the electricity wirelessly from the wireless charging infrastructure installed on the railway and can store the remaining electricity after using its operation at the installed battery. Therefore, it is possible to eliminate the power supply line of the conventional electric tram, and to apply the relatively small-size battery than the pure battery-powered electric tram. Even if the wireless charging electric tram is operated for the same time, the electricity consumption rate may be different depending on the speed, the acceleration, and the residence time by the station. Therefore, this study deals with the efficient design of operation profile for wireless charging electric tram which can minimize the variation of battery charge state according to the electricity consumption considering the installed wireless charging infrastructure. Mathematical model based optimization, one of the well-known Operations Research technique, is adopted to derive an efficient design of operation profile and appropriate solution procedure is suggested considering the feathers of developed mathematical model. The proposed model and solution procedure are tested using the data of Pangyo area, Kyunggi province of Korea.
