We propose "Shelly", a robot for restraining childrens abusive behaviors toward the robot. The robots overall system and its unique multi-modal interface are discussed first. Then, the result of an early stage evaluation of robots designed behaviors is explained. Finally, a primary function - the robot suspending all interactions for a period by hiding its head and limbs inside the shell - is proposed to restrain childrens robot abusing. The results show that the function, with an appropriate operating time, effectively reduces childrens robot abusing while maintaining their engagement with the robot.
