dc.description.abstractThis dissertation summarizes the research that has been conducted to apply the porous polymeric membrane with 3D continuous structure to the battery system. Secondary battery is the device that stores, releases the energy effectively, and the redox reaction occurrs at each electrode should be fully implemented without loss. Therefore, the separator between electrodes should transfer ion selectively for the high efficiency and long cyclability of battery. As a new method to realize the high permselectivity, 3D continuously connected porous membrane with controlled pore size and surface properties is synthesized. Based on the ion conductivity and permeability test, pore characteristics having high permselectivity is optimized and the result of application to battery system is described. Furthermore, we describe the results of applying a polymeric material with 3D continuous structure to multifunctional battery system, which should exhibit the high mechanical properties and high efficiency. Finally, in order to synthesize the mechanically, chemically stable polyolefin porous separator with well-defined pore structure, we propose a novel chemical reaction that can convert acrylate polymers to polyolefins.-
