Hydrogen has been recognized as an essential gas for the past few decades, and various methods for hydrogen production have been studied. Hydrogen production through electrolysis of water is one of the excellent methods of hydrogen production in that it uses electricity, which is an eco-friendly energy, and uses water as a material. Until now, there have been studies using various metals and carbon structures as catalysts, but this requires hightemperature heat treatment after synthesis and an environmentally friendly process such as emission of greenhouse gas during carbonization. This is contrary to the purposes of water electrolysis which is eco-friendly. The development of catalysts that minimize heat treatment and contain non-carbon is a research goal that must be achieved in water electrolysis. Therefore, in this study, a substance called MXene to which a transition metal is decorated was used as a catalyst. MXene is a two-dimensional material with terminal functional group. So, it is possible to attach various metal nanoparticle. In addition, it is possible to create a partial oxide due to intentional oxidation, and it is possible to create a porous two-dimensional structure by etching the partial oxide. This study aims to analyze the MXene, the intentional oxidation method, optimization of transporting gas and ion with porous structures, and catalytic ability of transition metals decorated to MXene.
