In the past years, Ionic liquids (ILs) have received growing attention from the areas of electrolytes and fuel cells. Their wide electrochemical window, high conductivity, and wide operation temperature range make ILs attractive for electrolyte applications. For this object, 2 types of ionic liquids, imidazolium and morpholinium ionic liquids, were synthesized and physical properties were measured. Lithium doped Butylmethylimidazolium ionic liquid was proven to be highly conductive, electrically stable (3 ~ 4.7 V) by thermal analysis and qualitative analysis.
Morpholinium cation - based ILs could be potential electrolytes based on following some reasons: (1) The effect of oxygen group in the cation for ionic conductivity (2) The advantages of synthesis and purification processes (3) Cost reduction in production of imizaolium ionic liquids. And the new morpholinium salts were also proven to be conductive and, thermally and electrochemically stable(3 to 4.5 V). Because of these unique characteristics, the new ILs might be promising candidates as electrolytes for batteries. Therefore, all these ionic liquids including imidazolium and morpholinium ionic liquids might be used for potential electrolytes electrolytes in Lithium ion batteries.
