dc.description.abstract | This study aims to develop and generate a series of typical Islamic geometric patterns by using the shape grammar interpreter tool based on the theoretical basis of shape grammar. First, we conducted an analysis of the Islamic geometric patterns and found the basic shapes and classifications that constitute it. Second, we use the shape grammar interpreter tool to complete the generation of a group of four typical Islamic geometric patterns. The main steps include selecting the original shapes, creating rules, and applying and repeating the rules to generate patterns. Third, we designed an experiment on the generation of Islamic geometries with different levels of complexity to compare the differences between our proposed method and the traditional method. The results showed that our method saves the user's working time and improves their efficiency compared to the traditional method. Also, we found that participants with different backgrounds have little difference in the use of this method. The method of this study makes it possible for ordinary users, including experienced designers to generate complex Islamic geometric patterns quickly. | - |
