dc.description.abstractThe past two decades have been marked by the rapid progress in the field of two-dimensional materials. Among them, $MoS_2$ (molybdenum disulfide) has become the center of attraction owing to its remarkable electrical properties, such as excellent carrier mobility and a high on/off ratio. However, the absence of dangling bonds and rapid chemisorption of unwanted species on its surface has limited its utilization. In this thesis, we have proposed a passivation layer made of a metal-organic framework, namely Cu-Zntpyp (Copper-Zinc 5,10,15,20-tetra(4-pyridyl)-21H,23H-porphrine) which acts as an optical window towards $MoS_2$ and protects it from damage caused by adsorbed gases leading to improvement in its photo-switching behavior. Moreover, Cu-Zntpyp also acts as a template for the accessorization of $MoS_2$, which inherently has no dangling bonds. Our results have shown the successful functionalization of the fluorescent dye, eosin Y disodium salt to the Cu-Zntpyp/MOF hybrid opening a new paradigm for the surface modification of otherwise passive two-dimensional materials.-
