We address the energy effective sensor routing method in Smart Grid systems. As the number of sensor nodes drastically increases with the appearance of Internet of Things, Smart Grid systems started to exploit data such as energy consumption trend or active time from sensors. Therefore, not only communication quality and energy efficiency but also computational complexity should be considered in order to communicate with large number of sensors. Since sensor routing is one of NP-hard problem, we proposed a sensor routing algorithm inspired by ㅁ Bird Mating Optimizer(BMO) called QoS-aware and energy efficient routing algorithm (QERA). Our main contribution is to adapt QERA in smart grid systems and examined its performance compared to existing routing algorithms. Through simulations and analysis, it is shown that the quality of communication and computational complexity are in trade-off relationship and it can be used to different objectives.
