Surface modification methods for biomaterials have recently attracted much attention in various fields such as biomedical engineering and regenerative medicine. Initiated chemical vapor deposition (iCVD) is a vapor-based polymerization process and has been emerging as one of the ideal surface modification methods for various biomedical applications because the iCVD process can generate ultrathin, ultrapure and robust polymer thin films with a variety of functionality. In this thesis, iCVD process were employed for the fabrication of paper-based tissue engineering scaffolds for stem cell culture and bone regeneration, and the development of 3D cell culture platform for generating tumorigenic cancer spheroids and biologically enhanced stem cell spheroids.
