Porous ceramics are widely used for applications such as catalysis supports, gas distributors and filters such as DPF. For these purpose, it is important to have proper porosity controlling pore structure while maintaining mechanical and thermal properties. In this work, we have prepared the porous ceramic structures made of alumina, silicon nitride, and cordierite with hierarchical pore structures. The structure is composed of macroscopically aligned porous channels with the walls of micro-sized lamellar porous ceramics by ice-templating method. Especially, the multi-layered lamellar structures of the walls are controllable by the various conditions. Therefore, we have investigated influences of the conditions on the microstructures and the properties, porosity, por .3e size distribution, lamellar thickness, wavelength, and orientations are characterized. Also, the compressive strength test was performed and thermal expansion coefficient was measured to determine structural integrity and thermal stability.
