An all-optical wavelength conversion of a 10-Gb/s nonreturn- to-zero signal is demonstrated by using absorption modulation in a Fabry–Perot laser diode. A continuous-wave holding beam is incorporated in order to enhance the operation speed of the proposed absorption modulation. The experimental results with and without the continuous wave holding beam are compared.
