A finite element program has been developed for a comparative study of solidification analysis. In order to handle release of latent heat a temperature recovery technique has been employed. The developed program has been tested by analyzing a two-dimensional aluminum bar casting and solidification the three- dimensional wedge. The computer results compared well to the available data in the literature. Finally, several numerical schemes for treating release of the latent heat during solidification, such as enthalpy front tracking and temperature recovery methods has been compared in terms of solution accuracy and computation time.en
