Understanding smartwatch wearing behaviors

Abstract

In spite of people's interest in smartwatches, we do not see people wear them very often. Investigation into when, how, and why people wear smartwatches needs to be conducted to improve the wearing experience and for smartwatches to become a part of our daily lives. We conducted a quantitative and a qualitative study of Apple Watch users and found patterns and behaviors related to smartwatch use. The processes of collecting sensor data from smartwatch users and quantitatively analyzing wearing states over time are introduced in this paper. The results from the analysis of wearing states and the survey and interview study are combined to support major findings about smartwatch usage.
