For the phosphor-converted(pc) lighting, traditionally micron-sized inorganic phosphors have been used as the major component and they have been rather successful. Recently to satisfy public energy saving target set up for the sustaining globe, ever higher efficiency is being required in the field of pc-converted white-LED and its associated light fixtures. To further improve efficiency of white-LED, quantum dots (QDs) and nano-phosphors have been investigated as an efficiency booster of LEDs. For the last 10 some years, tremendous efforts have been exercised to develop commercially available QD-based LEDs. Now it is probably a good idea to review the possibility of commercially available QD(nano-phosphor)-converted white-LEDs. In this presentation, major issues such as efficiency, color rendering, non-cadmium, and mass productivity of QD (nanophosphor)-converted LEDs will be investigated in order to access the possibility of commercially available QD(nanophosphor)-converted LEDs and their associated light fixtures.
