Large-area micro-gap electrodes were fabricated employing uniform-sized spherical beads as spacers to precisely control the gap thickness ranging from 500 nm to 8 mu m for large amperometric signal by the combination of electrochemical amplification by redox cycling and the large area of the electrodes. As a biosensor application, dopamine oxidation with an Au-Au (4 mu m) gap showed selective and sensitive amplification of dopamine in the presence of ascorbic acid. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V.
