This study was described that radiolytic loading of Pt-Ru nanoparticle onto porous carbons by using gamma-irradiation for methanol-oxidation catalysts. The radiolytic loading of the Pt-Ru nanoparticles was follows: Method I. The porous carbons were synthesized against removal of colloidal silica crystalline templates by carbonization of poly(styrene) as carbon precursor. Subsequently, the Pt-Ru nanoparticles were loaded on the porous carbon by using gamma-irradiation. Method II. The Pt-Ru alloy nanoparticle was loaded on the surface of SiO2 nanoparticles as template by gamma-irradiation (Pt-Ru@SiO2). Subsequently, the Pt-Ru@SiO2 was fabricated in order to prepare the order porous carbon. Finally, the Pt-Ru nanoparticle/porous carbon was prepared by etching using HF after carbonation of poly(styrene). The catalysts prepared by Methods I and II were characterized by EF-TEM, FE-TEM, CO stripping, and methanol oxidation. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
