The effect of korean innovation clusters on venture firms’ innovation performance : a partnership and R&D capabilities perspective

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to verify the appropriateness and enhance the effectiveness of innovation clusters with regard to the innovation performance of venture firms based on the Venture Business Survey 2010, a survey by the Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA), KOREA. I confirm that Korean innovation clusters have a positive effect on the innovation performance of venture firms. In addition, I find that upstream partnership, the diversity of partnership, and R&D personnel intensity have a mediating effect on the relationship between innovation clusters and the innovation performance of venture firms. I conclude with a proposal to improve the role of innovation clusters by reorganizing incentives to attract venture firms.
