These days, a firm takes an important role in creating wealth and contributing economics. The technology and collaborative business become more important for business activity based on the result of technology development and complicate business environment. Therefore, this research analyzed patent data for supporting technology management and partner’s process management which are considered important as increasing collaborative business activities among the various research subjects about improving firm performance. However these kinds of assets are qualitative, thus data source was limited to analyze them numerically and quantitatively. Accordingly the early studies about knowledge assets and their impact on firm performance are conducted on the conceptual studies and analysis of limited data source. According to the number of patent is increased since 2000, various previous studies analyzed patents and the results of these studies showed that the patent is good source for analyzing technology and knowledge assets of firms. Thus this study explored the developing field for patent strategies based on the study of relation between patent indicator factors of patents and firm performance. On the other hand, as the number of patent are increased, the firms have utilized their patents strategically for example patent litigation and the firms known as non-practicing companies have appeared. Based on this situation, various studies have analyzed patent indicators to prepare for the patent litigation. However these studies considered only direct patent citations and patent owned by plaintiffs, so that these studies overlooked the complicated relations between plaintiffs and defendants and the defendants’ patents highly related patent litigations.
