dc.description.abstractThis thesis deals with synthesis and characterization of hyperbranched polymer particles. We attempted the synthesis of various hyperbranched polymer particles via SNAr reaction, Michael addition reaction and in-verse suspension polymerization. Characterization and applications derived from the respective compositions and architectures were also investigated. Architectural variation of polymers was attempted to produce uni-molecular micelles and hydrogels. Firstly, unimolecular dendritic reverse micelle with carboxylic acid groups in the core and long chain alkyl groups as outer shell was prepared by polycondesation of 3,5-dihydroxy-benzoic acid (A2X monomer) and 1,3,5-tris(4-fluorobenzoyl)benzene (B3 monomer) followed by modification of dodecyl phenol. This amphiphilic hyperbranched poly(arylene ether) behaved not only as a unimolecular micelle but also as a nanocarrier for cationic guest molecules. Secondly, we synthesized hyperbranched polyamidoamines with functional nitrogen and amide groups by Michael addition reaction of various diamine monomers and acrylamide monomers. And also polymeriza-tion kinetic and thermal properties of the polymers were investigated. Finally, we investigated their absorption behaviors of heavy metal ions in aqueous solution. Finally, we synthesized the hyperbranched polyamidoamine (HPAMAM) particles from commercially available A2 and B4 type monomers by polycondensation without initiators or cross-linker agents via inverse suspension polymerization. Unlike other polymer particles which are synthesized via conventional suspension polymerization, the particles are synthesized via inverse suspension polymerization without initiators or cross-linker agents, so, the HPAMAM particles can be manufactured easily without additional cross-linkers.
