dc.description.abstract | A great deal of research for the Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology has recently been carried out to overcome the major shortage of Electric Vehicle (EV): limitations of the energy capacity of battery responsible for the short driving range and frequent charging. The WPT technology has been expected to make charging process more convenient and bring the enhanced mobility to EVs. The basic principle of the WPT technology is very simple, but in practice, it is very difficult to determine a number of parameters of the coils. In this thesis, the simplified and effective design methodology using the decomposition technique of the design variables is presented. The design criteria and the simplified design equations using the decomposed design variables were defined and derived to determine the optimal configuration of a pair of two magnetically coupled coils with shielding structure, which has been validated by the experimental results. The experiments were conducted with a 1kW prototype installed in a golf car which is electrically powered by lead-acid batteries. This study has been focused on the optimal design of the coils achieving the high efficiency and reducing the leakage magnetic field for the wireless charging application for EV. | eng |
