Different studies have proposed different gateway placement algorithms to deal with the problem of energy efficiency in Ad-hoc networks. In this work we developed an Enhanced-SWEET (Slotted Waiting Energy-Efficient time Driven) algorithm which is based on the already developed SWEET (Slotted Waiting Energy-Efficient time Driven) algorithm. We improved the SWEET algorithm by weighing the initial waiting time, introducing the sleeping mode scheme and introducing the base-station scheme. The Enhanced SWEET algorithm gives the fair chance to all the nodes to calculate their initial waiting time whereas the SWEET algorithm only resize the nodes that have exceeded the given time to calculate their initial waiting time. In the Enhanced-SWEET algorithm more nodes becomes gateways or cluster-heads, more cluster-heads, there will more energy saved. Weighting the initial waiting time gives more clusters, according to literature, when there many clusters in the network, more energy is saved. Clusters are equivalent to the number of gateways in the network. Our algorithm, allow nodes to sleep per round to save energy; Enhanced-SWEET divides the nodes into two groups, half of the nodes sleep while the other half send packet to the desired destination. The network operates in rounds, for each and every round the half of the nodes sleeps while other nodes are active, sending the packets to the cluster-head. Allowing other nodes to sleep in the network increase the lifetime of the network and base station aware nodes saves a lot of energy. Also using base station nodes aware member saves a lot of energy. Our simulation results show that Enhanced-SWEET saves more energy compared to SWEET algorithm. The simulation results also compare the Enhanced-SWEET algorithm with LEACH algorithm. Enhanced algorithm performs better compared the SWEET and LEACH algorithm. The energy efficient gateway location protocol can be achieved with Enhanced-SWEET algorithm.eng
