Study on synthesis of shape-controlled gold nanocrystals via seed-mediated growth method = 시드 성장 방법을 이용한 형태가 조절된 금 나노입자의 합성에 관한 연구

Gold nanocrystals have received increasing attention due to their unique properties such as localized surface plasmon resonance, biocompatibility and stability. Gold can crystallize in a simple colloidal reaction at room temperature, a distinctive advantage over other elements for characterization of colloidal nanocrystals. Control of the novel optical properties, such as surface plasmon, gains immense research endeavors, quickly followed by efforts to use gold nanocrystals in commercial applications. One way to dictate the properties of gold nanocrystals is to change their morphology of gold nanocrystals; therefore, their shape control poses scientific and technological importance. Solution-based colloidal synthesis of gold nanocrystals via so-called ‘arrested precipitation’ provides excellent monodispersity and size control of the resulting particles. It also confers an advantage in shape control, as one can use small gold nanocrystals as seeds to grow different shapes of particles depending on the surface energies. In this study, shape-controlled gold nanocrystals were synthesized via seed-mediated growth method. First, 8-nm single-crystalline gold seeds were prepared by mixing $HAuCl_4$, CTAB (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide), CTAC (cetyltrimethylammonium chloride), $NaBH_4$, and L-ascorbic acid. In different concentrations and growth solutions (N,N-Dimethylformamide (DMF), Poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP)), these 8-nm Au seeds, produce various shapes of nanocrystals, e.g. octahedra and rhombic dodecahedra and their size was controlled by the volume change of seed solution. Concaved rhombic dodecahedral Au nanocrystals which have concaved rhombic facets and over-grown vertices of rhombic dodecahedron were also synthesized.
