In this paper, we introduce an efficient anonymous authen-tication protocol in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) to resolvethe issue on anonymous authentication for communication between road-side units and vehicles. Our proposed protocol cannot only guaranteeprivacy, anonymity, and other basic cryptographic requirements but alsoprovide traceability of illegal users. Our proposed protocol utilizes thetraceable ring signature scheme and the k-times anonymous authen-tication scheme to address the contradiction between the anonymityand traceability.en
