Abstract

In this paper, we propose a plate detection algorithm based on the characteristics and distribution of edges. We first extract edges from an input image, and then we filter those edges based on the characteristics of a license plate. By measuring the density of the filtered edges, we finally detect a license plate region. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust even when the content of an image is complex.
