dc.description.abstractLow temperature diesel combustion was carried out in a 5 cylinder direct injection diesel engine with massive exhaust gas recirculation rates up to 62%. Simultaneous reduction of nitrogen oxide and soot emissions was achieved using low temperature diesel combustion. However, higher hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide were observed under low temperature diesel combustion. In order to reduce these exhaust emissions, two stage injection strategy was introduced. Different pilot injection timings and quantities were tested under low temperature condition. Reduction of hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide was achieved by retarding the pilot injection timing and increasing the pilot injection quantity.-
