We report on a polymeric Phtorefractive (PR) system that combines a semiconductor inorganic nanoparticle (CdSe), a conjugated poly (N-vinyl carbazole) polymer and NLO chromophores (DR1). CdSe has advantage of tuning the band gap via its size control. For the application as PR device, surface of the CdSe nanoparticles should be treated to be organic. Therefore we synthesized CdSe nanoparticles via inverse micelle method and treated their surfaces with thiol as an organic modifier. Structures and optical properties of the CdSe nanoparticles are characterized by XRD, TEM, UV-vis absorbance, and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. The PR effect is measured by two beam coupling experiment using a He-Ne laser (633 nm).
