dc.description.abstractIn this paper, discrete element method (DEM) has been applied to evaluate the slope stability of landfill lining systems. It is capable of estimating the distributions of tensile force and shear stress mobilized in liners and their interfaces, respectively. According to the slope angles, the mode of failure could be affected. The method is able to take into account of the failure mode occurring at the bottom interface of synthetic liners that the other methods cannot consider.-
