TPD was used to study the coadsorption of CO and H2 on Pd(110) at hydrogen pressure in the range of 10−7–10−6 Torr at 200 K. It was found that large exposures of hydrogen make the β-H peak shift towards temperature below 300 K. Both adsorbed and dissolved hydrogen atoms were detected even on a surface presaturated with CO. These observations were interpreted as the existence of a surface intermediate of CO-H under gas ambiance which proceeds the penetration of hydrogen into the bulk.
