The paper describes an interactive computer integrated system for the ship design. The system permits rapid determination of optimum principal particulars, hull form and shape of midship section. It also performs structural design, strength analysis, and evaluates hydrodynamic performances. To manage databases the general purpose relational database management system ORACLE is used. For the user interface the concept of Graphic User Interface (GUI) is applied. To enhance portability of the GUI portion, the OSF/Motif which is based on the de facto standard X-Window system is being used. The system is hardware independent.
