A novel rechargeable meso-aryl Bodipy-based Cys sensing ensemble has been developed ("turn on,'' Phi(F) = <0.05 -> 0.72, limit of detection = 6.0 x 10(-6) M) with exceptional selectivity over homocysteine, N-acetylcysteine, glutathione (GSH) and methionine.
