This article examines the design of knowledge services and the requirements set for knowledge service engineering
in the future to be able to meet the vision of the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy that states that knowledge
will be the primary source of productivity and growth in the 21st century in Korea. Our approach was to use brainbased
metaphors and models to better understand what kind of knowledge services we should be able to design in the
future. We realized that the current, passive definition of knowledge service is not adequate. We propose new kinds of
knowledge services that will be able to emulate and support individuals, groups, teams, companies and organizations
mind structures in dynamic situations. The support should be emulated by using human memory systems, motivational
systems, interpreting systems and automatic systems and their subsystems as they are actively present in living humans
(systems). We named our proposal as Mind Systems Emulation Framework (MSEF). Knowledge service engineering
will be responsible for developing and applying such knowledge services in the future.
