An all-optical wavelength conversion of a 10-Gb/s nonreturn-to-zero signal is demonstrated by using absorption modulation in a Fabry-Perot laser diode. A continuous-wave holding beam is incorporated in order to enhance the operation speed of the proposed absorption modulation. The experimental results with and without the continuous wave holding beam are compared.(c) 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
