Qualitative models are used to simulate the humans causal reasoning of various mechanisms and potentially useful in aiding, expert systems, fault diagnosis, and many other areas. The current modeling methods developed by artificial intelligence researchers share some common limitations. This research developed a rule-based temporal reasoning system that facilitates a new modeling approach. Using this system, aqualitative model may be easily built of common-sense descriptions representing the human expertise in a variety of domains.
