At the final stage of liquid phase sintering, isolated pores are eliminated by instantaneous filling of liquid in many alloy systems. Some recent experimental and theoretical studies on the liquid filling of isolated pores and its driving force, the implication of the grain shape change during sintering, the microstructure evolution and specimen shrinkage in relation to the pore filling, and the effect of entrapped gases are reviewed and discussed.-
