SURVEY OF ATOMIC TRANSITIONS FOR ABSOLUTE FREQUENCY LOCKING OF LASERS FOR LIGHTWAVE SYSTEMS

The optogalvanic responses of 26 atomic transitions have been measured to assess their applicability for absolute frequency stabilization of 1.3- and 1.5-mu-m semiconductor lasers. Significant variation in their potential utility is seen.
