dc.description.abstractThe world of telecommunications is currently going through a shift of paradigm from circuit switched, connection oriented information transfer towards packet switched, connection-less transfer. These changes enable access to internet and multimedia services in wireless network. $\emph{IP All the way}$ over the air interface do not have to terminate the IP protocols before the air interface. Provision of real-time IP services in air interface introduces relatively large overhead in RTP/UDP/IP headers to alleviate the overhead, the header compression schemes are required. There exists two header compression schemes which are IETF standards. One is CRTP which focuses compression efficiency and the other is ROHC which gives more robust schemes than CRTP in air interface. This paper proposes Context-ID(CID) detection method which reduces more efficiently the packet loss rate than the two schemes mentioned above. CID detection method enables wireless packet communication to be more robust against the errors that occur in wireless link. Its performance in WCDMA system environment is evaluated for CRTP and ROHC schemes. Simulation results show that CRTP and ROHC schemes with the CID detection method gives rise to about 30~50% improvement in packet loss rate compared to those schemes without the CID detection method.eng
