The third generation mobile telecommunication service, IMT-2000 has the goal of data/multimedia service, backward compatibility, and global roaming service. And, such trends bring about the research of mobile stations adopting multi-band and multi-standard.
In this thesis, as the first stage for implementation of multi-band mobile station, PCS/W-CDMA dual-band RF receiver, which is one of the most interested topics, is designed. For this, the each standard is analyzed, and the required performance parameters are calculated. And then, system level design is done and confirmed by simulation. At the end, this thesis introduces the dual-band receiver architecture that can be achieved with present technologies, and then analyses and designs are performed.
The most important points are noise, spurious response, and impedance matching. Especially, in the coexistence of both two services, the noise from the other service can damage the receiver performance. In fact, this effect makes the required system NF to be tighter by 1.7dB and 1.3dB for each PCS and W-CDMA. However, RF switch can solve this problem. And other problems are confirmed not to be significant by analyses and simulations.
In this work, through the design of PCS/W-CEMA dual-band-RF receiver, the basic technology on dual-band receiver design was obtained. Furthermore, this research is expected to be a guideline to the research of multi-band transceiver.
